Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzap

My new Klaxons vinyl arrived in the post yesterday - a lovely 12" & 7" package limited to 1000 and only available via their label's myspace.

Pick of the bunch is the blinding 3rd Eye Mafia mix, which you can still get from xxjfg if yr quick. Both the mixes on the blood red 7" are great as well though... one by Metronomy & one by 8-bit warriors Crystal Castles.

Having been in touch with them through the magic of myspace, they requested that rather than post the mix from the single, I post a second version which is due to appear on the Klaxons album. Now truth be told, to my uncultured ears I can barely discern a difference. However that does mean that it's no less ace. Huzzah!

Hopefully that should keep you moist until October, when Digitalism & Nightmoves remixes will be coming out on Kitsune (who have either not renewed their web domain, or are moving into fuel dispensers).

I was also going to post up the excellent Crystal Castles single, 'Alice Practice' (also available from Merok records), but it's over on Big Stereo right now. Go get.

EDIT: Here's a much better quality version of 'Alice Practice'... a perfect blend of bleeping, squelching and breathless screaming.... apparently so named because it is a recording of Alice. Practicing.

Instead And here are two other tracks they sent across. The first, 'Air War', is from the b-side to the Merok 7". The second, 'Rot', comes from the b-side of 'Magic Spells' - a forthcoming 12" on Young Cubs records.

All this bleeping puts me in mind of my dear old commodore 64. I was quite a gaming obsessive in those days... but (except for Mario Karts) i've never quite found it the same fun now that you can see what the things on screen are supposed to be!

Ages ago on Gabba.Pod someone posted this GLORIOUS theme tune to 'Commando', by legendary C64 composer Rob Hubbard. It's quite quite mental. And quite quite brilliant.

And here are a couple more gems for your enjoyment. The first is from my all time favourite game, Bubble Bobble. In fact when I finally succumbed and bought a playstation (1) this was about the only game I played!

PETER CLARKE - BUBBLE BOBBLE THEME

And another from Rob Hubbard, who really made all 8 of those bits sing on this... the beautiful theme to 'Monty on the Run'. I seem to remember this picking up the presigious Zzap 64 soundtrack of the year!

Ha... check this quote:
When Monty on the Run was released its music provoked a reaction that will never be seen again in the computer games industry. People who heard it were completely astonished that a piece of music written for a computer game could sound so much like conventional music. Unlike anything written before it, the Monty on the Run music sounded so "alive" and authentic you could almost believe the instruments were being playing by a real band.

Amazing!

Oooh... i think i'd better have a lie down. I'm having a nostalgia overdose!
